![]() What are the most haunted places in Kentucky?Įvery state in the country has its fair share of haunted locations, and Kentucky is no different. For more haunted adventures, check out these haunted tunnels in Kentucky. Waverly Hills isn’t the only haunted tunnel around. Mind you, we are not confirming nor denying that Waverly is haunted, but it has been featured on quite a few documentaries and television shows over the years. The bottom line is that the death tunnel is a must-stop if you happen to be a haunted places enthusiast. The Waverly Hills Sanatorium death tunnel in Kentucky has an interesting history, and you can read more about it in our previous article. Youtube user Dead Explorer perfectly captured what it’s like to walk through the tunnel in the video above. The official estimates were admitted at more than 60,000 individuals died from TB or some of the questionable treatments utilized as attempted cures for the ailment. Fewer than 5% of patients initially survived. It has been estimated that the death tunnel actually saw more dead people than most modern hospitals do in its first three years. The second purpose was to protect those who had to transport the dead to the pickup spot to be laid to rest. ![]() They would not be subjected to seeing dead patients taken away for burial/burning. The tunnel’s main purpose was to protect the morale of other patients. The video above is the movie’s trailer posted by YouTube Movies & Shows. They focused less on the tunnel and more on a college kid storyline, highlighted with a little bit of history. To be honest, it is very much a “B” flick… at best. There was even a movie written and produced at Waverly. This video by Youtube user JustAVideoPage shows a hauntingly beautiful collage of many faces that may have eventually traveled down the death tunnel. Nothing that went down the death tunnel ever came back up. It was the workers that would be detached to gather the bodies of the dead and either burn, bury, or transport them elsewhere. The patients that passed on at Waverly were left at the end of the tunnel. The dead were left at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel itself was originally 525 feet long and ran out to the bottom of the hill. All tour guides both nights were great and every employee we came across was helpful and kind. The path towards the light connected to the main building via a railway system on the first floor of the original hospital. I highly recommend the historical tour to anyone wanting to experience this wonderful building and all the significance of its history. Not only could we enjoy seeing this magnificent building but we could take some wonderful pictures. On the flipside, the historical tour the following day was fantastic. We've done many paranormal tours in different locations, such as Eastern State Reformatory, Bobby Mackeys, and Rolling Hills Asylum to name a few and we have never walked in complete pitch black where we couldn't experience our surroundings. We left after that tour slightly disappointed as we spent the whole tour in practical darkness walking around not seeing anything in the building but pitch black hallways and rooms. The paranormal tour had a lot more historical information and a lot less paranormal aspects than I thought it would. We decided to choose a weekend where we could do the paranormal tour one night and the history tour the next day. We had been looking forward to going to this location for quite some time. I don't think I can because it's not right. How can I ask my members to put back money for a investigation, when we just lost all of that money. And when your a group of 6 and each and everyone of us struggle with money. I love the paranormal and I hate to quit or even think about quitting. But I dont want any of my paranormal family out their to have the same thing done to them. I was hesitant to even put this out there because I hate throwing people under the bus. We paid $1,060 pluse tax for a 8 hour private group investigation. So pretty much we wasted our money that my group has saved for investigating Waverley Hills. They told us that they wont give us our money back and that they cant rescedual our investigation. We told them that we didn't want our money back. So we did, we did 4 or 5 times before they decided to email us back. They told us to email the person that's over the bookings. But we had a death in the family and we called Waverley Hills Sanatarium two day's before our scedual investigation, to let them know that we cant make it. The reason why I been thinking about quitting is because we had a investigation at Waverley Hills Sanatarium on August 11th 2021. I been quiet on here for a long time, I been having alot of mixed feelings about if I should keep on ghost hunting or just quitting.
